Ministry of Electricity Decree Orders Destruction of Electricity Union in Iraq

Ministerial Order

In accordance with the agreement of the respected Minister as to the recommendations of the office of the General Inspector regarding the memo number 30/a/1/1 dated July 19, 2010, it has been decided as follows:

  1. Prohibition of the practice of the trade union activity in the Ministry; and cessation of all forms of cooperation and official discussions with the unions operating inside the Ministry and in its enterprises and other locations

  2. All departments and enterprises should cooperate with the Ministry of Electricity police to enforce the closure of union offices and wherever the union is present to conduct an inventory of, as an initial step to handover, their contents therein, including documents, furniture, computers and anything else present, in accordance with these orders

  3. The affected enterprises should take immediate legal actions against anyone who threatens or uses force or causes any damage to public property, under the two Articles (3 and 4) of the anti-terrorism law number 13 of 2005

  4. All departments and enterprises should form committees comprised of representatives from the office of the Inspector General, and the administrative and legal departments in order to identify the extent of the benefits and privileges union members have gained (i.e. negotiated) and repeal them, and take administrative and legal actions against those who violate this order

  5. This order takes effect immediately upon its publication
